During a mass vaccination campaign, vaccination teams will come into contact with a high proportion of dogs in the population. As such they are likely to encounter dogs that are showing signs of illness and injury. Whilst the objective of the campaign is to vaccinate as many dogs as possible during a defined period, there is an ethical obligation to help animals in need. Good planning can ensure a clear process for handling such situations that upholds dog welfare whilst minimising impact of vaccination output. This section discusses some approaches to consider.
