Introduction

Integrated Bite Case Management (IBCM) for rabies is a comprehensive approach that involves the systematic handling of individuals who have been bitten by animals potentially infected with rabies. This includes including immediate wound care, assessment of exposure risk, and administration of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) where rabies virus exposure is considered likely. The provision of PEP based on risk assessment intends to reduce human deaths from rabies by ensuring limited stocks of vaccine are prioritised to those at increased risk.
