Introduction

Haematology is a key part of diagnostic work-ups of many cases, and can provide the vet with essential information to aid in reaching a final diagnosis. Many resource-limited settings have limited equipment, and would not include an automated analyser. However, all you need is a spot of blood, a few basic laboratory items, a microscope, and some targeted knowledge to enable you to feel confident about your diagnositic ability! This module will cover how to make and interpret a blood smear, and give you the key skills to recognise common haematological abnormalities.
