Introduction

In this section, we will describe the three main stages of wound healing:

  1. Inflammation (including haemostasis)
  2. Repair (also known as Proliferative)
  3. Maturation

These phases are dynamic and often overlap. Understanding the expected steps in wound healing helps the clinician select the appropriate treatment for each stage and allows accurate assessment of the wound’s progress.

The following articles will provide an overview of the physiological steps involved.
